3 Years Natural Hair Journey #NaturalHairTag

Hey Fam!

In this video I’ll be sharing my reflections on my natural hair journey.

In one line I’d say that 3 years without relaxing my hair has been very empowering. It really helped me get to know myself a lot more and be a lot more self-confident and comfortable in my own skin.

The black lives matter movement has also made me realise the importance of loving and accepting my identity as a black woman with afro hair so I’m really proud to be owning my journey and loving my hair 3 years after I stopped using chemical straighteners.

Are you natural? If so, why? If not, why not? Please share your journey with me!

Love always,

Just Keep Going – Reflections on a 100 vlogs

Hey Fam!

This weeks vlog is quite a long one so brace yourself. Think this is my longest video yet, but I wanted to do something special for my 100th vlog.

I’ve previously shared my concerns about my weight and my acne and so I started a 10 pounds cleanse last week in the hopes that I will see some improvement in both regards. As you can see from the video things didnt turn out quite how I expected but if you’d like to try for yourself check out the screenshot below

The vlog ended on a bit of a heavy note cause my cousin died suddenly (RIP Kuro) and so it made me feel very reflective about this journey we call life. You just have to cherish each moment you get and do what you can to keep going cause the next moment is never guaranteed.

Anyways, I can’t believe I’ve finally gotten to this point, after a year and 8 months of (trying to be) consistent on Youtube lool. Thank you all so much for riding with me, watching my vids, engaging with my content and supporting me. It means more than you know.

Pray that as I continue to share my journey, it will remain relevant and useful to you in your own journey of transformation.

Love always,

Aku xxx

Its Not For The Faint Hearted

Hey Fam!

This weeks vlog gives you some more insight into my work as a content creator. From scouting for the perfect shoot location to memorising scripts for advertisements.

Ive also started a new sugar detox cleanse in the hopes that it helps out with my skin. I really appreciate all the feedback on my last post on the things I could use to improve my skin. I figured I might as well try from the inside and see what difference it makes. Stay tuned for some results in next weeks vlog.

Love always,

Aku

Think I Found My Niche

Hey Fam!

Thanks so much for your feedback on my last post. It really helped me see the value of my vlogs. As a result I’ve decided to start weekly vlogging so expect new videos from me every Sunday.

I think vlogging may be a bit tricky this period cause of COVID, we’re all home bound then for me, most of the people I hang out with don’t really like to be on camera but I hope yall will still enjoy what I’m able to capture.

Love always,

Aku

Finding My Niche

Hey Fam!

I usually get comments about how my channel is all over the place and I feel like my growth on this platform will be through having a clearly defined niche. I really want to make sure I do this right so please be sure to let me know what you want to see more of from me and why you subscribed to my channel in the first place. I’d really appreciate the feedback.

Love always,

Aku

Wedding Series: #KAPRE2020

Hey Fam!

In this vlog series I take you along with me through the journey of one of my best friends getting married.

Part 1 is all about the introduction

Part 2 is the wedding proper. From the Igba Nkwu in Nnewi to the White wedding in Lagos

Presh was like the first friend I made in secondary school so it was honestly so emotional to see her enter a new phase of life. Thankfully she is now married to one of my big brothers (Kaka is a family friend) so it doesn’t feel like a loss. I can’t wait to see their family grow and I pray for Gods favour to reign in their marriage forever.

Sorry I didn’t get to vlog the white wedding but you can see some beautiful memories below

PS all pictures are by Akintayotimi and you can search the official hashtag #KAPRE2020 on Instagram to see more

I know that a lot of people have had to postpone their weddings as a result of the pandemic but I hope watching this wedding series gets you excited again about your own day.

Love always,

Aku.

Crucial Conversations: Hashtags are not enough #BlackoutTuesday

Hey Fam!

Its been a very heavy week in the world with everything thats been going on top of the #COVID19 pandemic. From the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Aubrey and Breonna Taylor in America to the abuse of Tina, Uwa and Farshina in Nigeria. Social media has been rampant with hashtags calling for #JusticeFor the different individuals and Tuesday was declared as #BlackoutTuesday to emphasise the darkness of the cases on social media but are these hashtags enough to make a real difference?

Maybe in America, but not here in Nigeria. Its beginning to feel like its just one hashtag after another.

Please watch till the end and let me know your thoughts. Don’t get me wrong, social media advocacy can be powerful for raising awareness and funds but for legal justice to be served we need real reform of our institutional structures.

Aku

Analysing How Nigeria Is Responding to the #COVID19 Pandemic

Hey Fam!

Three months after the first case was announced in Nigeria, I released a video on my second channel which seeks to analyse how Nigeria is responding to the pandemic and points out some factors that may be necessary for us to consider if this kind of thing happens again in the future.

Simply put…We need to do better. We need to treat ourselves better. We need to ensure better protection is in place for the most vulnerable in our societies.

Seems like it’s one thing after another this year. Now #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd and #JusticeForUwa are trending. Next week God knows what it will be. There just seems to be so many unfortunate events… So much injustice. Really praying for the world to heal 🙏🏽

Love always fam! Stay safe and stay strong.

My Skin Journey

Hey Fam!

In this vlog series I share my acne story with you

And also share my current skincare products

I hope that I will be able to share an updated skin care routine again soon, because as you can see in the video my skin regressed after a little bit of progression but generally I’m glad that I’m now confident enough to share this journey with you all.

Please let me know what you do to manage your acne? And your favourite place to get your skin products in Nigeria.

Love always,
Aku
